Bi-orders do not arise from total orders

چکیده

We present some Zermelo-Fraenkel consistency results regarding bi-orderability of groups, as well a construction groups with Conradian orders whose every action on metric spaces has bounded orbits. A classical consequence the ultrafilter lemma is that group bi-orderable if and only it locally bi-orderable. show there exists model ZF in which free (ergo bi-orderable) not bi-orderable, can be given total order. Such also exist presence principle dependent choices. Comparable are provided for torsion-free abelian groups.

Do-not-resuscitate orders and medical futility.

This report addresses the difficult situation in which a patient or surrogate decision maker wishes cardiopulmonary resuscitation to be attempted even though the physician believes that resuscitation efforts would be futile. It also reviews current controversies surrounding the subject of do-not-resuscitate (DNR) orders and medical futility, discusses the complex medical, legal, and ethical con...

Impediments to writing do-not-resuscitate orders.

BACKGROUND Physicians are frequently unaware of their patients' desires regarding end-of-life care. Consequently, opportunities to implement do-not-resuscitate (DNR) orders are often missed. OBJECTIVE To determine the reasons attending physicians do not write DNR orders when patients face increased mortality. METHODS Over 4 months, the medical records of all inpatients on the General Medici...

Do not resuscitate orders in different countries.

Health care decision making in severely ill patients presents many difficult medical, ethical and legal problems. Physicians, including anaesthesiologists, are frequently confronted with dilemmas regarding the appropriateness of risky interventions and the balance of potential benefits versus risks. The risks include not only death and the pain and suffering that are related to the intervention...

Do-not-resuscitate orders: nurse's role requires moral courage.

The Truth About CPR All Patients and Families Need to Know CPR stands alone as the only intervention the patient must state explicitly that he or she does not want. Today, every patient is a “full code” unless a DNR order is documented clearly in the medical record. However, the probability of success of CPR varies based on the cause of the arrest, the patient’s health status, and the availabil...

Perioperative do-not-resuscitate orders: it is time to talk

A study by Burkle et al. in BMC Anesthesiology examined attitudes around perioperative do-not-resuscitate orders. Questionnaires were given to patients, as well as to anesthesiologists, internists and surgeons. The study has limitations and is open to interpretation. However, the findings are important. There appear to be attitudinal differences between patients and doctors, and between special...
