Beyond survival: Strengthening community‐based support for parents receiving a family service intervention

This paper presents parents' experiences of community support and their recommendations for how communities, the services within them, might families. Generated through a human-centred design methodology using desire-centred framework, findings suggest that parents receiving family service require invoking feelings intimacy, trust, reciprocity, inclusivity, connection belonging. Parents' include addressing material attitudinal constraints impacting on engagement with services; creating non-judgmental tailored to needs but accessed as last resort; peer-based opportunities each other. Parents reflect moving beyond basic survival risk vulnerability position where thriving is possible requires purposeful integration parent's existing desired into interventions. Facilitating deliberate change at intersection pertinent current future social work policy practice. Wider understanding enabling aspirations parents, which are often overlooked because focus vulnerability, considered.
