Beyond Diels-Alder: Domino reactions in furan-maleimide click networks

The furan-maleimide Diels-Alder chemistry has emerged as an important tool to design thermo-reversible click networks. This not only preserves the strong and robust properties of thermo-sets rubbers, but also makes it possible cleave crosslinks at non-degradative temperatures, or in other words recycle them. In this work a new reaction is reported networks, which Double-Diels-Alder (DDA), known domino Diels-Alder. forms extra linkages between adducts non-reacted furan groups evidently leads stronger materials, prevents efficient thermal (re)cycling. shows with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) characterization, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) rheology that DDA can occur both intramolecular intermolecular fashion, exhibits reversibility just like regular reaction. be easily overlooked creating what first sight might inexplicable reactivity when analyzing
