Benign and straightforward synthesis of lignan-type dimers using crude peroxidase from red radish (Raphanus sativus var sativus)

Alkyl esters of hydroxycinnamic acids and vanillin derivatives were used as model compounds in the oxidative coupling reactions catalyzed by a crude enzymatic extract Raphanus sativus var (red radish). Six products isolated characterized: three alkyl dimers vanilloids dimers. Herein, we report var. showed peroxidase activity catalyzing phenols. Vanilloid coupled an ortho-ortho way expected, while ester formed through 5-8 8-8 bonds via radical mechanism prior to cyclization
