Benefits and challenges to applying IPD: experiences from a Norwegian mega-project

Purpose The traditional construction delivery method is challenged by low trust and collaboration issues, resulting in increased project costs. integrated (IPD) developed, through a contractual agreement, to overcome these challenges creating common set of terms, expectations goals. Design/methodology/approach A singular case was followed during four-month period. Data collection consisted contract documents series semi-structured interviews with representatives from the owner, design-group contractors. Findings IPD found have number positive effects; it improved behavior (e.g. trust, communication), ownership among participants buildability design, leading fewer surprises interruptions phase. study also revealed including legal involving too many early phases. Moreover, co-location identified as particular important supporting element, build relations improve collaboration. Originality/value This research lessons learned application, well initial barriers persistent for implementing IPD.
