Bekenstein-Hod Universal Bound on Information Emission Rate Is Obeyed by LIGO-Virgo Binary Black Hole Remnants

چکیده

Causality and the generalized laws of black hole thermodynamics imply a bound, known as Bekenstein-Hod universal on information emission rate perturbed system. Using time-domain ringdown analysis, we investigate whether remnant holes produced by coalescences observed Advanced LIGO Virgo obey this bound. We find that bound is verified astrophysical population with 94% probability, providing first confirmation from systems.Received 12 December 2020Revised 5 February 2021Accepted 9 March 2021DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.126.161102© 2021 American Physical SocietyPhysics Subject Headings (PhySH)Research AreasAstrophysical studies gravityExperimental gravityGeneral relativityGravitational wave sourcesGravitational wavesQuantum aspects holesGravitation, Cosmology & Astrophysics

Black hole remnants and the information puzzle.

Magnetically charged dilatonic black holes have a perturbatively infinite ground state de-generacy associated with an infinite volume throat region of the geometry. A simple argument based on causality is given that these states do not have a description as ordinary massive particles in a low-energy effective field theory. Pair production of magnetic black holes in a weak magnetic field is esti...

Constraints on black hole remnants.

One possible fate of information lost to black holes is its preservation in black hole remnants. It is argued that a type of effective field theory describes such remnants (generically referred to as informons). The general structure of such a theory is investigated and the infinite pair production problem is revisited. A toy model for remnants clarifies some of the basic issues; in particular,...

The Rate of Binary Black Hole Mergers Inferred from Advanced Ligo Observations Surrounding Gw150914

A transient gravitational-wave signal, GW150914, was identified in the twin Advanced LIGO detectors on September 14, 2015 at 09:50:45 UTC. To assess the implications of this discovery, the detectors remained in operation with unchanged configurations over a period of 39 d around the time of the signal. At the detection statistic threshold corresponding to that observed for GW150914, our search ...

Used percentage veto for LIGO and virgo binary inspiral searches

A challenge for ground-based gravitational wave detectors such as LIGO and Virgo is to understand the origin of non-astrophysical transients that contribute to the background noise, obscuring real astrophysically produced signals. To help this effort, there are a number of environmental and instrumental sensors around the site, recording data in “channels”. We developed a method called the used...
