Stochastic Planning with Conflicting Temporal Logic Goals
We propose algorithms for agents in Markov Decision Processes that plan to maximally satisfy multiple, potentially conflicting, temporal logic goals. These agents (1) satisfy as many goals as possible; (2) prioritize more important goals; and (3) violate goals, if necessary, for the minimum possible duration. We demonstrate the behaviors of such agents in two simple domains.
متن کاملManagement of Attainable Tradeoffs between Conflicting Goals
Rational decision-making requires governance of attainable trade-offs between conflicting goals, uncertainties and risks, which in turn demands both novel modeling methods and appropriate modeling technology. The paper deals with recent developments in applied modeling that have been motivated by the requirements for model-based support of solving complex problems. It starts with presenting nov...
متن کاملLife Goals and Well-Being:
Past research has revealed that relative importance a person places on extrinsic life goals as oposed to intrinsic ones is related to lower well-being. But sometimes it is more important why a goal is being pursued than the content of the goal. Materialistic aspirations will not decrease people's well-being if they help them to achieve basic financial security or some intrinsic goals. On the ot...
متن کاملColorblindness and Diversity: Conflicting Goals in Decisions Influenced by Race
The present studies address a conundrum in contemporary American society: While many Americans agree that increasing racial diversity is a worthy goal, they are reluctant to acknowledge the impact of race on individual decisions in an effort to honor norms of colorblindness. In two studies, participants made hypothetical college admissions decisions among sets of equally qualified Black and Whi...
متن کاملAre clean technology and environmental quality conflicting policy goals?
In this paper we analyze the effects of an environmental policy on the diffusion of a clean technology in an economy where firms compete on the output market. We show that the share of adopting firms is non-monotonic with the stringency of the environmental policy, and that the adoption of the clean technology may well increase the pollution level. We also compare the effects of an emission tax...
