Batch and Continuous Chromate and Zinc Sorption from Electroplating Effluents Using Biogenic Iron Precipitates

Nanoparticles of iron precipitates produced by a microbial consortium are suitable adsorbent for metal removal from electroplating industry wastewaters. Biogenic were utilized as adsorbents chromate and zinc in batch conditions. Furthermore, the embedded alginate beads fixed-bed columns, their performance was evaluated continuous system varying different operational parameters such flow rate, bed height, feeding (down- up-flows). The influence adsorption variables saturation time, amount adsorbed potentially toxic metals, column investigated, shape breakthrough curves analyzed. optimal achieved increasing height decreasing feed rate inlet concentration. up-flow significantly improved uptake, avoiding preferential channels.
