Balancing Quality of Experience and Traffic Volume in Adaptive Bitrate Streaming

چکیده

Adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming services have spread with advances in the codec, video streaming, and network technologies. For smooth playback ABR services, a player runs an algorithm, which dynamically adjusts of data on basis statuses player. Existing algorithms calculate suitable to maximize quality experience (QoE). However, providing high-QoE increases investment costs content delivery (CDN) usage fees. According survey conducted by Streaming Video Alliance, mobile users prefer low-traffic videos videos. To reduce traffic volume, commercial video-streaming enable set upper limit bitrate. this cannot always achieve required QoE because they select high even when communication environment improves during viewing. In paper, we propose BANQUET, novel algorithm that can volume while maintaining above target QoE. The be or providers considering user's preferences CDN budget. BANQUET selects estimating will experienced all patterns for next several chunks future throughput buffer transition calculation. trace-based simulation showed reduces 18.3%-51.2% average 1.2%-38.3% broadband same as better than existing algorithms.

Adaptive Bitrate Video Streaming over HTTP in Mobile Wireless Networks

The topic of this dissertation is bitrate adaptive media streaming to receivers in mobile wireless networks. This work was motivated by the recent explosion in popularity of media streaming to mobile devices. Wireless networks will always be bandwidth limited compared to fixed networks due to background noise, limited frequency spectrum, and varying degrees of network coverage and signal streng...

Subjective and Objective Quality-of-Experience of Adaptive Video Streaming

With the rapid growth of streaming media applications, there has been a strong demand of Quality-of-Experience (QoE) measurement and QoE-driven video delivery technologies. While the new worldwide standard dynamic adaptive streaming over hypertext transfer protocol (DASH) provides an inter-operable solution to overcome the volatile network conditions, its complex characteristic brings new chall...

Quality of Experience of adaptive video streaming: Investigation in service parameters and subjective quality assessment methodology

The usage of HTTP adaptive streaming (HAS) has become widely spread in multimedia services. Because it allows the service providers to improve the network resource utilization and user's Quality of Experience (QoE). Using this technology, the video playback interruption is reduced since the network and server status in addition to capability of user device, all are taken into account by HAS cli...

Computing Quality of Experience of Video Streaming in Network with Long-Range-Dependent Traffic

The amount of streaming traffic has grown enormously in the last years and is expected to continue to grow. However, the Internet still provides only best-efforts and therefore the traffic streaming are distorted by fluctuations in the available bandwidth on the Internet. In this paper we develop an analytical approach to study Quality of user Experience (QoE) for streaming by considering a MMF...
