Balanced cable routing for offshore wind farms with obstacles

Abstract The cable routing problem is the task of designing minimum‐cost electrical network between turbines offshore wind farms while satisfying several constraints. It contributes to decreasing energy costs, favoring green transition. This paper focuses on balanced routing, studying both branched and radial topology. First, we propose a visibility graph route cables around obstacles boundaries present in farm area. Next, develop novel Large Neighborhood Search (LNS) heuristic using neighborhoods increasing complexity: swap , exchanging two root‐branches; double pairs turbines; cycle moving re‐partition re‐partitioning re‐routing adjacent root‐branches. We also extend LNS unbalanced configuration compare existing literature. On average, it finds solutions same quality orders magnitude less run‐time, improving five cases.
