Baerveldt implant for secondary glaucoma due to iris melanoma
BACKGROUND Proton beam therapy (PBT) is effective in the treatment of iris melanoma. Reported complications after PBT are radiation-induced cataract and raised intraocular pressure (IOP). Filtering glaucoma surgery has generally been avoided because of fears of seeding. CASE REPORT A 37-year-old man presented with a self-discovered, pigmented lesion on his right iris. Four years later, the pi...

APRIL 2011 I RETINA TODAY I 39 N eovascular glaucoma (NVG) is often caused by posterior segment disease, primarily diabetic retinopathy, central retinal vein occlusion, or carotid occlusive disease. Surgical options in NVG include trabeculectomy, trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C, cyclodestruction, and tube stent implants. An anterior segment approach to stent placement in patients with NVG may h...
متن کاملComparison of the Ahmed glaucoma valve with the Baerveldt glaucoma implant: a meta-analysis
BACKGROUND This study aims to compare the efficacy and safety of the Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) with the Baerveldt glaucoma implant (BGI) in glaucoma patients. METHODS Databases were searched to identify studies that met pre-stated inclusion criteria, involving randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) and non-randomized controlled clinical trials. Treatment effect was analyzed using a ran...
متن کاملMotility disturbance due to true Tenon cyst in a child with a Baerveldt glaucoma drainage implant.
Epithelial ingrowth of the bleb cavity, a true Tenon cyst, is a rare complication of a glaucoma drainage implant. Previous cases have been associated with persistent bleb leak, and most have occurred in eyes with prior extraocular surgery. We describe a case of a true Tenon cyst causing strabismus and an elevated intraocular pressure that was successfully treated by surgical revision.
متن کاملLate-Onset Endophthalmitis Secondary to Exposed Glaucoma Tube Implant in a Rare Case of Paediatric Glaucoma
Glaucoma drainage implants (GDIs) are used to treat paediatric glaucoma resistant to conventional medical and surgical treatment, achieving good intraocular pressure (IOP) control and long-term success. Late endophthalmitis is a rare complication that may develop following GDI surgery. A 17-year-old male presented with acute endophthalmitis 2 years after Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation with p...
