Backbone-induced semiconducting behavior in short DNA wires
We propose a model Hamiltonian for describing charge transport through short homogeneous double stranded DNA molecules. We show that the hybridization of the overlapping p orbitals in the base-pair stack coupled to the backbone is sufficient to predict the existence of a gap in the nonequilibrium current-voltage characteristics with a minimal number of parameters. Our results are in a good agre...
متن کاملSpin-glass behavior of semiconducting KxFe2− yS2
We report the discovery of KxFe2−yS2 single crystals, isostructural to KxFe2−ySe2 superconductors. The sulfide compound is a small gap semiconductor and shows spin-glass behavior below 32 K. Our results indicate that stoichiometry, defects, and the local environment of FeCh (Ch = S,Se) tetrahedra have important effects on the physical properties of isostructural and isoelectronic KxFe2−yCh2 com...
متن کاملSemiconducting Behavior of Carbon Steel in Electrolyte Solution
In this paper, the semiconducting behavior of carbon steel in acid, base and salt solutions was studied by utilizing potential-capacitance and Mott-Schottky analysis. It was pointed out that the capacitance variation of space charge layer of carbon steel in different solution was different. The carbon steel showed p-type semiconducting behavior in 5% sulfuric acid and 5% sodium sulfate solution...

متن کاملChemical ordering in Cr3Al and relation to semiconducting behavior
Cr3Al shows semiconductor-like behavior which has been attributed to a combination of antiferromagnetism and chemical ordering of the Cr and Al atoms on the bcc sublattice. This article presents a detailed theoretical and experimental study of the chemical ordering in Cr3Al. Using density functional theory within the KorringaKohn-Rostoker (KKR) formalism, we consider five possible structures wi...
