Axion-sourced fireballs from supernovae

چکیده
New feebly interacting particles would emerge from a supernova core with 100-MeV-range energies and produce $\gamma$-rays by subsequent decays. These contribute to the diffuse cosmic $\gamma$-ray background or have shown up in Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) satellite SN~1987A. However, we show for example of axion-like (ALPs) that, even at distances beyond progenitor star, decay photons may not escape, can instead form fireball, plasma shell $T\lesssim 1$ MeV. Thus, existing arguments do exclude ALPs few 10 MeV masses two-photon coupling $10^{-10}~{\rm GeV}^{-1}$. energy showed sub-MeV photons, which were seen SN 1987A Pioneer Venus Orbiter (PVO), closing again this new window. A careful re-assessment is required other that constrained similar ways.

Fireballs, Flares and Flickering: A Semi-analytic, LTE, Explosive Model from Accretion Disks to Supernovae
We derive simple analytic expressions for the continuum lightcurves and spectra of flaring and flickering events that occur over a wide range of astrophysical systems. We compare these results to data taken from the cataclysmic variable SS Cygni and also with SN 1987A, deriving physical parameters for the material involved. Fits to the data indicate a nearly time-independent photospheric temper...
متن کاملCold Kaons from Hot Fireballs
The E814-collaboration has found a component of very low m t K + mesons with a slope parameter of T 15 MeV. We will present a scenario which explains the observed slope parameter and which allows us to predict the expected slope parameter for kaons produced in heavier systems such as Au+Au. Implications for the restoration of chiral symmetry in relativistic heavy ion collisions are discussed.
متن کاملAxion Radiation from Strings
This paper revisits the problem of the string decay contribution to the axion cosmological energy density. We show that this contribution is proportional to the average relative increase when axion strings decay of a certain quantity Nax which we define. We carry out numerical simulations of the evolution and decay of circular and non-circular string loops, of bent strings with ends held fixed,...
متن کاملRadiation from collision-dominated relativistic pair fireballs
It is generally accepted that gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are initiated by a relativistic pair fireball, converting its internal energy into kinetic energy of a relativistically moving plasmoid and subsequently into radiation. Here, we investigate the early stages of this evolution, after the pair fireball has become optically thin to γγ pair production. We show that for a short period of time, ∼ 0...
متن کاملThermal neutrinos from hot GRB fireballs
We consider the physics of neutrinos in a fireball, i.e. a tightly coupled plasma of photons, positrons and electrons. Such a fireball is believed to form in the first stages of a gamma-ray burst. We assume the fireball is radiation-dominated and spherically symmetric. Energy considerations limit the allowed baryon density, from which it follows that the neutrino physics is dominated by leptoni...
