Avian influenza H5N1: still a pandemic threat?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 viruses have become endemic in global poultry populations over the past 25 years and pose an ongoing public health threat. Although incidence of human cases has declined, from lineage can now be found throughout Asia, Middle East Africa, addition to causing outbreaks Europe Americas. The recent emergence spread reassortant H5Nx viruses, resulting regional outbreaks, increased risk for further evolution these possible avian-to-human transmission. Ongoing surveillance pandemic preparedness other concern are warranted.

H5N1 influenza: a protean pandemic threat.
Infection with avian influenza A virus of the H5N1 subtype (isolates A/HK/212/03 and A/HK/213/03) was fatal to one of two members of a family in southern China in 2003. This incident was preceded by lethal outbreaks of H5N1 influenza in waterfowl, which are the natural hosts of these viruses and, therefore, normally have asymptomatic infection. The hemagglutinin genes of the A/HK/212/03-like vi...

The threat of an avian influenza pandemic.
There have been three influenza pandemics during the past century — in 1918, 1957, and 1968. Although the severity of the epidemics and the primary age groups affected varied, each was caused by a novel type A virus of avian origin. In 1957 and 1968, the new viruses had components of previous human viruses as well as avian viruses. The genome of the influenzavirus is made up of eight segments o...
متن کاملAvian influenza virus (H5N1): a threat to human health.
Pandemic influenza virus has its origins in avian influenza viruses. The highly pathogenic avian influenza virus subtype H5N1 is already panzootic in poultry, with attendant economic consequences. It continues to cross species barriers to infect humans and other mammals, often with fatal outcomes. Therefore, H5N1 virus has rightly received attention as a potential pandemic threat. However, it i...
متن کاملAvian influenza A (H5N1).
Since their reemergence in 2003, highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N1) viruses have reached endemic levels among poultry in several southeast Asian countries and have caused a still increasing number of more than 100 reported human infections with high mortality. These developments have ignited global fears of an imminent influenza pandemic. The current knowledge of the virology, clinical ...
