Delft ’ s integrated approach at World Expo Shanghai
Dear reader, We are pleased to present the first edition of Contact, the newsletter of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. We shall use Contact to keep readers up to date with the latest developments in the faculty’s education, projects and partnerships. And there is much to report. In the past year, we have devoted considerable energy to realigning the faculty’s activities and es...
متن کاملBEATCA: Map-Based Intelligent Navigation in WWW
In our research work, we explore the possibility to exploit incremental, navigational maps to build visual search-and-recommendation system. Multiple clustering algorithms may reveal distinct aspects of the document collection, just pointing to various possible meanings, and hence offer the user the opportunity to choose his/her own most appropriate perspective. We hope that such a system would...
متن کاملInformation-based intelligent unmanned ground vehicle navigation
Sensor-centric navigation of Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) operating in rugged and expansive terrains requires the competency to evaluate the utility of sensor information such that it results in intelligent behavior of the vehicles. In this paper, we propose an entropic information metric for the above purpose where entropy is used to quantify the probabilistic uncertainty in sensor measurem...
متن کاملIntelligent Vision Systems for Landmark-Based Vehicle Navigation
Navigation is the process of planning, recording, and controlling the movement of a craft or vehicle from one place to another. Navigating a vehicle in dynamic environment is one of the most demanding activities for drivers in daily life. American people drive 12,000 miles per year in average. Studies have long identified the difficulties that drivers have in planning and following efficient ro...
متن کاملRule-Based Adaptive Navigation for an Intelligent Educational Mobile Robot
The paper presents a hybrid adaptation method that combines a knowledge-based approach with reinforcement learning and a simulated annealing technique, and is applied in the navigation of an educational mobile robot. The experimental results of simulations showed a good behaviour of the robot when doing an adaptive navigation in a dynamic environment by using the proposed hybrid method.
