Automated vehicle crash sequences: Patterns and potential uses in safety testing

چکیده
With safety being one of the primary motivations for developing automated vehicles (AVs), extensive field and simulation tests are carried out to ensure AVs can operate safely on roadways. Since 2014, California DMV has been collecting AV collision disengagement reports, which valuable data sources studying crash patterns. In this study, sequence extracted from reports were used investigate patterns how they may be develop test scenarios. Employing analysis, study evaluated 168 crashes (with in automatic driving mode before or collision) 2015 2019. Analysis subsequences showed that most representative pattern was (collision following stop) type. event transition disengagement, as an 24 percent all studied sequences, had a probability 68 immediate collision. Cluster analysis characterized sequences into seven groups with distinctive dynamic features. Cross-tabulation significantly associated variables measuring outcomes describing environmental conditions. Crash useful Based findings, scenario-based testing framework proposed events embedded core component.

متن کاملAutomated Reasoning: Real Uses and Potential Uses
An automated reasoning program has provided invaluable assistance in answering certain previously open questions in mathematics and in formal logic. These questions would not have been answered, at least by those who obtained the results, were it not for the program's contribution. Others have used such a program to design logic circuits, many of which proved superior (with respect to transisto...
متن کاملDeer-Vehicle Crash Patterns and Proposed Warning Sign Installation Guidelines
Deer crossing signs are the most widely used potential countermeasure to deer-vehicle crashes (DVCs). The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices provides qualitative guidance and indicates the installation of these signs where animal crossings are unexpected. Most drivers assume these signs designate roadway segments with larger than typical numbers of DVCs and/or deer crossings. Studies of ...
متن کاملEdr Pre-crash Data: Potential for Applications in Active Safety Testing
Passive safety testing has been based on accident research where objective physical evidence can be compiled and analysed when establishing technical test requirements. Active safety tests pose new challenges because objective data is more difficult to obtain. Until pre-crash variables became available in Event Data Recorders (EDR), the only sources of pre-crash vehicle motions were tire marks ...
