Atypical Presentation of Subclavian Steal Syndrome with Left Sided Sensorineural Deafness

چکیده
We present a rare manifestation of common pathology: Left sided sensorineural hearing loss secondary to subclavian steal syndrome (SSS) after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for complicated acute dissection [Figure 1]. describe the vascular physiology that may result in unilateral and provide brief review SSS. This case report highlights importance avid clinical recognition an atypical presentation disease.

Subclavian Steal Syndrome
The Subclavian Steal Syndrome is a condition that results from the stenosis or occlusion of the subclavian artery proximal to the origin of the vertebral artery. The blockage causes the reversal of the normal direction of blood flow in the vertebral artery which is termed the "steal", because it steals blood from the cerebral circulation. Blood is drawn from the contralateral vertebral, basilar...
متن کاملBilateral Subclavian Steal Syndrome
Bilateral subclavian steal syndrome is a rare condition. It is usually due to reversal of vertebral blood flow in the setting of bilateral proximal subclavian or left subclavian plus innominate artery severe stenosis or occlusion. This finding may cause cerebral ischemia related to upper extremities exercise. We report a case of bilateral subclavian steal secondary to total occlusion of the inn...

BACKGROUND Subclavian steal syndrome is a systemic entity that is well-documented in the medical literature. It occurs when the subclavian artery becomes stenosed or occluded and blood flow is reversed in the ipsilateral vertebral artery. This siphoning or "stealing" of blood has traditionally been thought to cause symptoms of vertebral-basilar insufficiency. Recent literature indicates that su...

Literature data on the etiology, clinical picture, diagnostic variants and treatment of subclavian steal syndrome are reviewed. Different clinical variants and neurological symptoms of the syndrome are described. Multispiral computed tomography, along with ultrasound examination, is important in the diagnosis of the syndrome and its causes. The use of other methods is necessary for more accurat...
