Atypical Presentation of a Sequestered Posterolateral Disc Fragment.
Sequestered disc fragments typically occur ventrally but can also migrate dorsally or intradurally. At times, atypical disc herniations can be misinterpreted on imaging as other lesions, such as neoplasms, hematomas, or abscesses. We present an uncommon case of a patient presenting with cauda equina syndrome secondary to an enhancing sequestered disc fragment mimicking a tumor.

AIM Posterior epidural migration of a sequestered lumbar intervertebral disc fragment (PEMSLIDF) is an extremely rare condition published so far only as case reports or small case series (ranging between 2 to 8 cases). Diagnosing this condition is often challenging and the diagnosis is usually made intraoperatively. The affected patients usually suffer cauda equina syndrome (CES). In the presen...
متن کاملPosterior epidural migration of sequestered lumbar disc fragment causing cauda equina syndrome.
Posterior epidural migration of free disc fragments is rare, and posterior migration of the free fragments causing cauda equina syndrome is exceptionally rare. This report describes a 53-year-old man with disc fragment extrusion at the levels of L3-4 and a 54-year-old man with disc fragment extrusion at L5-S1 intervertebral space. The patients responded well to the operative therapy with comple...

Background and Importance: Disk sequestration can be defined as a herniated disk with perforation of the fibrous ring (or outermost annulus fibrosus) and posterior longitudinal ligament with migration of the disk fragment to the epidural space. Even after the introduction of high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), it is still frequently misinterpreted as neoplastic masses. U...
متن کاملNeural foramen remodeling caused by a sequestered disk fragment.
A 53-year-old man had had pain for 2 months in the left lower extremity radiating to the thigh . The pain had begun suddenly after he had lifted a heavy object. Clinical examination showed mildly decreased strength in the left leg, normal reflexes, and decreased sensation to pinprick in the left L3 nerve root distribution. A herniated disk at the L3 level was suspected, and myelography and CT o...
