Attraction of Male Pine Sawflies, Diprion jingyuanensis, to Synthetic Pheromone Candidates: Synergism between Two Stereoisomers

چکیده

The pine sawfly Diprion jingyuanensis Xiao and Zhang (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae) is a serious pest of Pinus tabulaeformis Carr. in the Shanxi, Gansu, Inner Mongolia provinces P. R. China. sex pheromone D. was shown to be propionate ester 3,7-dimethyl-2-tridecanol. Virgin females contained an approximate 1:3 blend precursors erythro-(2S,3S,7R/S 2R,3R,7R/S)-3,7-dimethyl-2-tridecanol threo-(2S,3R,7R/S 2R,3S,7R/S)-3,7-dimethyl-2-tridecanol, but exact stereoisomers were not determined. Males responded strongest two threo-isomers, (2S,3R,7R) (2S,3R,7S), electroantennogram (EAG) recordings, followed by significant EAG response diprionol (pheromone component similis), whereas remaining isomers (2S,3S,7S 2S,3S,7R) 3,7-dimethyl-2-tridecanol acetate isomer (one components pini) did elicit any increase antennal response. In field, strongly EAG-active (2S,3R,7R)-isomer alone only weakly (but significantly) attractive males at 100 µg, while equally EAG- active (2S,3R,7S)-isomer same loading 8–14 times more than alone. Traps baited with amounts threo-isomers ((2S,3R,7R) µg + µg) caught significantly traps other isomers, either or proportions isomers. Thus, considered as strong essential sex-attractant for males, weak synergistic sex-attractant. This one few examples responding stronger binary fashion single stereoisomer

Sex pheromone specificity in the pine sawflies: interchange of acid moieties in an ester.

3,7-Dimethylpentadecan-2-ol was identified as the free alcohol in three species from two genera of pine sawflies (Hymenoptera: Diprionidae). In Neodiprion lecontei and Neodiprion sertifer the acetate of this alcohol is the major component of their sex attractant; in Diprion similis it is the propionate. By examining the responses of the male antennae of several species of Neodiprion through the...

Field attraction of the stink bug Euschistus conspersus (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) to synthetic pheromone-baited host plants.

The attraction of the stink bug Euschistus conspersus Uhler to sources of the synthetic pheromone component methyl (2E,4Z)-decadienoate was investigated in a series of field experiments in native vegetation surrounding commercial apple orchards in Washington. In experiments with pheromone lures placed inside two different tube-type traps, stink bugs were attracted to the immediate area around t...

Mating Disruption/SIR Attraction of Obliquebanded Leafroller Males to Various Natural and Synthetic Sex Pheromone Blends

The response of Michigan male obliquebanded leafroller, Choristoneura rosaceana, moths to females from three different geographical regions was studied in replicated field trials during 1999. Our goal was to determine the optimal pheromone blend for monitoring the phenology and abundance of this insect in Michigan apples. Traps were baited with either a rubber septum loaded with synthetic phero...

Attraction of Anoplophora glabripennis to male-produced pheromone and plant volatiles.

The male-produced pheromone of Anoplophora glabripennis (Motschulsky) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), which is an equal blend of 4-(n-heptyloxy)butan-1-ol and 4-(n-heptyloxy)butanal, was used in laboratory bioassays and in the greenhouse to determine its potential for attracting A. glabripennis adults. In modified "walking wind tunnels," virgin females were most attracted to the alcohol component, ...
