چکیده
Abstract Atlantic white-cedar (Chamaecyparis thyoides [L.] B.S.P.) is considered critically imperiled across much of its range. This species occurs in freshwater swamps, rarely further inland than 160 km from the or Gulf Coasts and susceptible to several natural anthropogenic disturbances (i.e., tropical cyclones, fire, saltwater inundation, overharvesting). As frequency intensity storms increase, understanding regeneration will be critical conservation. study evaluated 14 years after Hurricane Katrina. All ≥2.5 cm at breast height were inventoried within an ~9 ha area located Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge Jackson County, Mississippi, USA. Additionally, competing woody vegetation was surveyed. After Katrina, number stems increased by 191%. long-term provides first analysis post–tropical cyclone disturbance Coast allows conservationists a better effects on this species.

Atlantic hurricane surge response to geoengineering.
Devastating floods due to Atlantic hurricanes are relatively rare events. However, the frequency of the most intense storms is likely to increase with rises in sea surface temperatures. Geoengineering by stratospheric sulfate aerosol injection cools the tropics relative to the polar regions, including the hurricane Main Development Region in the Atlantic, suggesting that geoengineering may miti...

Question: Hurricanes and cyclones cause a wide range of damage to coastal forests worldwide. Most of these storms are not catastrophic in ecological terms, but forest responses to storms of moderate intensities are poorly understood. In regions with a high frequency of moderate hurricanes, how does variation in disturbance intensity affect the magnitude of ecological responses? Location: Nausho...

متن کاملAtlantic hurricane activity during the last millennium
Hurricanes are a persistent socio-economic hazard for countries situated in and around the Main Development Region (MDR) of Atlantic tropical cyclones. Climate-model simulations have attributed their interdecadal variability to changes in solar and volcanic activity, Saharan dust flux, anthropogenic greenhouse gas and aerosol emissions and heat transport within the global ocean conveyor belt. H...
متن کاملClimate Modulation of North Atlantic Hurricane Tracks
The variability of North Atlantic tropical storm and hurricane tracks, and its relationship to climate variability, is explored. Tracks from the North Atlantic hurricane database for the period 1950–2007 are objectively separated into four groups using a cluster technique that has been previously applied to tropical cyclones in other ocean basins. The four clusters form zonal and meridional sep...
