Asymptotic approximations for swirling turbulent plume rising from circular sources

چکیده
Swirling turbulent plumes are investigated with the Morton, Taylor, and Turner model (MTT) $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Gamma}}$-approach. We derive asymptotic solutions using regular perturbation methods, discuss influence of swirling motions on plume properties for lazy forced plumes, respectively. Specially intriguingly, by introducing a swirl, can even be turned into one in near field during vertical evolution.

متن کاملAsymptotic Approximations for n !
Several approximations for n! have recently appeared in the literature. We show here how these approximations can be derived by expansion of certain polynomials in inverse powers of n and comparison with Stirling’s asymptotic series. Some new approximations are also given. The same procedure is applied to generate approximations for the ratio of two gamma functions.
متن کاملSpontaneous generation of a swirling plume in a stratified ambient
The transition from laminar to complex spatio-temporal dynamics of plumes due to a localized buoyancy source is studied numerically. Several experiments have reported that this transition is sensitive to external perturbations. Therefore, a well-controlled set-up has been chosen for our numerical study, consisting of a localized heat source at the bottom of an enclosed cylinder whose sidewall i...
متن کاملAsymptotic Approximations of the Solution for a Traveling String under Boundary Damping
Transversal vibrations of an axially moving string under boundary damping are investigated. Mathematically, it represents a homogenous linear partial differential equation subject to nonhomogeneous boundary conditions. The string is moving with a relatively (low) constant speed, which is considered to be positive. The string is kept fixed at the first end, while the other end is tied with the ...
متن کاملFlame length measurements of the turbulent plume
A steady source of buoyancy creates a plume. Experi mental and theoretical studies of plumes have been mainly concerned with the far-field (self-similar) velocity and den sity profiles. •-3 Yet in many practical situations, knowledge regarding the rate of molecular scale mixing of the buoyant fluid with its environment is needed. This is especially true in the context of atmospheric studies, ...
