ASYMPTOMATIC URINARY TRACT INFECTION IN PREGNANT WOMEN WITH BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS ATTENDING TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL, VISAKHAPATNAM

Objective: Determining the prevalence of bacterial vaginosis and asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women who were prenatal outpatients inpatients at a tertiary care hospital was goal current investigation.
 Methods: During one-year period, total 234 from OP IP (GYN OBG dept.) department representing various age parity groups gestational ages attended teaching hospital. The samples subjected to standard microbiological techniques for identification microorganisms. Amsel's criteria Nugent scoring system applied diagnosis vaginosis.
 Results: Out study subjects, Increased homogenous vaginal discharge found 132 patients (56.4%), whiff’s test positive seen 59 (25.2%), clue cells observed 48 (20.5%) pH greater than 4.5 115 patient high swabs (49.1%). Maximum numbers cases 109 reported Nugent’s score 7-10 (80.7%) out 135 cases. Among urine analysis, 82 showed microbial growth. major isolate E. coli 34 (41.4%) followed by Proteus species 18 (21.9%).
 Conclusion: In order avoid pregnancy difficulties, it is advised that antenatal health institutions examine vaginitis. Moreover, with BV should get UTI screening. Antibiotic usage be promoted responsibly, while misuse antibiotics discouraged. Douching having several sexual partners are risk factors BV, hence precautions done.
