Astroglial Connexins in Neurodegenerative Diseases

نویسندگان

چکیده

Astrocytes play a crucial role in the maintenance of normal functions Central Nervous System (CNS). During pathogenesis neurodegenerative diseases, astrocytes undergo morphological and functional remodeling, process called reactive astrogliosis, response to insults CNS. One key aspects is change expression function connexins. Connexins are channel proteins that highly expressed astrocytes, forming gap junction channels hemichannels, allowing diffusional trafficking small molecules. Alterations astrocytic connexin found diseases have been shown affect disease progression by changing neuronal survival. In this review, we will summarize astroglial connexins including Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s Parkinson’s amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Also, discuss why targeting can be plausible therapeutic strategy manage these diseases.

Exosomes: Future Perspective in Neurodegenerative Diseases

Neurodegeneration is a progressive and irreversible loss of neuronal cells in specific regions of the brain. Alzheimer Diseases (AD) Parkinson Disease (PD) are the most common forms of neurodegenerative diseases in older people. Exosomes are extracellular nanovesicles that have a key role in physiological processes such as intercellular communication, cell migration, angiogenesis, and anti-tumo...

Role of Astroglial Hemichannels and Pannexons in Memory and Neurodegenerative Diseases

Under physiological conditions, astroglial hemichannels and pannexons allow the release of gliotransmitters from astrocytes. These gliotransmitters are critical in modulating synaptic transmission, plasticity and memory. However, recent evidence suggests that under pathological conditions, they may be central in the development of various neurodegenerative diseases. Here we review current liter...

Gap junctions and hemichannels composed of connexins: potential therapeutic targets for neurodegenerative diseases

Microglia are macrophage-like resident immune cells that contribute to the maintenance of homeostasis in the central nervous system (CNS). Abnormal activation of microglia can cause damage in the CNS, and accumulation of activated microglia is a characteristic pathological observation in neurologic conditions such as trauma, stroke, inflammation, epilepsy, and neurodegenerative diseases. Activa...

P 155: The Roles of Microglia in Neurodegenerative Diseases

Microglia is a type of glial cell located throughout the central nervous system (CNS), which is sensitive to CNS injury and disease. Responsibility of microglia as the resident macrophage cells for injuries suggests that these cells have the potential to act as diagnostic markers of disease beginning or progression. Function of Microglia is strongly synchronized by the microenvironment of brain...
