چکیده
BackgroundObesity and overweight have been well established as comorbidities of epilepsy in adults. However, the effects obesity on risk adult drug-resistant (DRE) has not fully assessed. Thus, objective this study was to investigate relationships between categories body mass index (BMI) DRE.MethodsThis a case-control study. Patients with hospitalized for Video electroencephalogram were included from 2015 2020. Low/normal weight, overweight, defined BMI<23 23-24.9 ≥25 kg/m2, respectively. The proportions patients diagnosed DRE each category calculated.ResultsA total 1272 drug-responsive 345 More men than women had (P=0.012). Higher history status epilepticus (P<0.001), CNS infection (P=0.027), developmental delay (P=0.001), comorbidity (P<0.001). Obesity (BMI≥25 kg/m2) associated an increased (adjusted OR, 2.339; 95% CI, 1.724-3.171). No significant increase found be overweight. Further stratified analyses by valproic acid (VPA) treatment attenuated obesity-DRE relationship, but associations remained statistically 1.79; 1.15-2.80).ConclusionObesity, potentially plays role DRE, although confounders, such antiseizure medications (ASMs) use, need explored. In future, well-designed trials are needed elucidate issue.

متن کاملNeurostimulation as a Putative Method for Treatment of Drug-Resistant Epilepsy in Patient and Animal Models of Epilepsy
A patient with epilepsy was shown to have neurobiological, psychological, cognitive, and social issues as a result of recurring seizures, which is regarded to be a chronic brain disease. However, despite numerous drug treatments, approximately, 30–40% of all patients are resistant to antiepileptic drugs. Therefore, newer therapeutic modalities are introduced into clinical practice in which invol...

Background: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is an epileptic encephalopathy, characterized by drug-resistant multiple seizure types. The aim of this study was to determine if the adjunctive use of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in patients with LGS and drug-resistant epilepsy is efficacious in decreasing their seizure frequency and also to investigate its safety and tolerability. Method...
