Associations of muscular fitness and body composition in children

Purpose To examine the associations between muscular fitness (MF) and body composition.Method MF was assessed with three tests of FitnessGram test battery. Total fat percentage (BF%), abdominal (AF%) fat-free mass (FFM) were measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The IOTF index (BMI) cut-offs used to define healthy weight, overweight, obesity.Results inversely associated BF% AF%. children in moderate high groups had significantly lower AF% compared low group within same BMI category. After adjusting for cardiorespiratory (CRF), sex, differences significant but not AF%.Conclusion There inverse DXA -measured adiposity. Within category, total adiposity or than MF.
