Association of Moderate Hypothermia at Admission with Short-Term and Long-Term Outcomes in Extremely Low Birth Weight Infants

چکیده
Purpose: Extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants exhibit immature thermoregulation and are easily exposed to hypothermia. We investigated the association between hypothermia on admission with short- long-term outcomes. Methods: Medical records of ELBW admitted neonatal intensive care unit a tertiary medical center June 2012 February 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Upon admission, axillary body temperature was measured. Moderate defined as below 36 ℃.Results: A total 208 gestational age 26.4±2.3 weeks 746.7±154.9 g included. Admission ranged from 33.5 36.8 ℃ (median 36.1 ℃). Univariate analyses maternal infant characteristics performed for moderately hypothermic control (normothermic mildly hypothermic) infants. Lower age, lower weight, vaginal delivery correlated moderate Logistic regression adjusted confounders revealed that incidence hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (hsPDA) associated in Moreover, abnormal mental developmental index scores Bayley Scales Infant Development II at corrected 18 24 months hypothermia, but not psychomotor index, blindness, deafness, or cerebral palsy. Conclusion: is only short-term morbidities such hsPDA, may also be neurodevelopmental impairment Future large-scale studies required clarify consequences upon admission.

Short- and Long-Term Outcomes in Very Low Birth Weight Infants with Admission Hypothermia
BACKGROUND Neonatal hypothermia remains a common problem and is related to elevated morbidities and mortality. However, the long-term neurodevelopmental effects of admission hypothermia are still unknown. This study attempted to determine the short-term and long-term consequences of admission hypothermia in VLBW preterm infants. STUDY DESIGN This retrospective study measured the incidence and...

OBJECTIVES To assess whether targeted short-term fluconazole prophylaxis reduces late-onset (>3 days of age) invasive fungal infection (IFI) among very low birth weight infants and extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants and to assess mortality rates, toxicity, and costs associated with this intervention. METHODS An observational study of 2 subsequent epochs of inborn infants with birth wei...
متن کاملInitial Resuscitation at Delivery and Short Term Neonatal Outcomes in Very-Low-Birth-Weight Infants
Survival of very-low-birth-weight infants (VLBWI) depends on professional perinatal management that begins at delivery. Korean Neonatal Network data on neonatal resuscitation management and initial care of VLBWI of less than 33 weeks gestation born from January 2013 to June 2014 were reviewed to investigate the current practice of neonatal resuscitation in Korea. Antenatal data, perinatal data,...
متن کاملShort- and Long-Term Outcomes for Extremely Preterm Infants.
Prematurity is the leading cause of infant mortality worldwide. In developed countries, extremely preterm infants contribute disproportionately to both neonatal and infant mortality. Survival of this high-risk population has incrementally improved in recent years. Despite these improvements, approximately one in four extremely preterm infants dies during the birth hospitalization. Among those w...
