چکیده

Wild boar Sus scrofa populations have increased dramatically in recent decades throughout Europe. While hunting is widely used management activities; it rarely has an important role regulating and reducing wild populations. Therefore, increasing the efficiency of a compelling issue. In this study, we three-year dataset (2016–2018) on population living Campania (southern Italy) as case study to explore how effort made collective drive hunts affected rate, estimated number individuals culled per day. We fitted Linear Mixed Model, which included boars hunt dependent variable, beaters, shooters dogs month during occurred predictors. A mean 1.81 were hunt. The animals with progression season (i.e., from October December), whereas beaters had no effect. Overall, observed low rate. suggest that adjusting calendar reorganising hunts, e.g., through appropriate training dogs, are essential increase Our results can be useful for wildlife managers enhance contribution counteracting negative impact boar.

Evaluation on management of wild boar (Sus scrofa L.) population in Bolu-Sazakici hunting ground.

Bolu-sazakiçi sample hunting ground covered 9132 ha divided into 360 sample areas of 25 ha each. 50 of them were sampled by means of the simple random sampling method. In the sample areas "Point Counts" was applied and the population of wild boar density and numbers were determined. As a result, it was estimated that 734 wild boars inhabit the area. Of these individuals, 79 were males, 238 were...

The feasibility of reintroducing Wild Boar (Sus scrofa) to Scotland

The feasibility of reintroducing Wild Boar Sus scrofa to Scotland was investigated using the predictions of a Geographical information System (GIS) and a Population Viability Analysis (PVA). In the first stage of this study we summarized information from published literature on the biology, habitat requirements, home range use and population densities of Wild Boar, and using a GIS we identified...

Structural Classification of Wild Boar (Sus scrofa) Vocalizations

Determining whether a species' vocal communication system is graded or discrete requires definition of its vocal repertoire. In this context, research on domestic pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) vocalizations, for example, has led to significant advances in our understanding of communicative functions. Despite their close relation to domestic pigs, little is known about wild boar (Sus scrofa) vocal...

Puberty in female wild boar (Sus scrofa) in Sweden

BACKGROUND Since the re-appearance of wild boars in Sweden in the 1970s, the population has increased. Besides having large litter sizes, puberty at an early age is considered as an important factor contributing to the high reproductive potential of wild boar. Although controversial, supplemental feeding is applied to varying extent throughout the wild boar range in Sweden, and its effect on wi...
