چکیده
Abstract In the pre-construction phase of offshore wind energy projects floating lidar systems (FLS) are used for site assessment. Their measurements mean speed and direction have proven to be accurate according existing standards. But assessment turbulence intensity (TI), a widely-accepted procedure acceptance criteria missing. This study investigates different evaluation methods, namely linear regression analysis key performance indicators (KPIs) presented by Consortium Advancing Remote Sensing (CFARS). The is based on data from an trial Fugro SEAWATCH Wind Lidar Buoy (SWLB) against meteorological mast collocated fixed profiling at Blyth, UK. results show that accuracy TI estimates FLS can evaluated well, when KPIs bias error (MBE) representative suggested CFARS used. We propose best-practice thresholds ±1% MBE ±1.5% error. motion-compensation approach SWLB works well after compensation, its similar reference lidar. impact lidar-specific effects minor in analyzed set near-to-zero biases found all measurement elevations bins comparison data.

The glide-path scans of the LIDARs at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) are used to calculate the eddy dissipation rate (EDR), the internationally adopted metric for turbulence reporting/alerting, by using the structure function approach based on the radial velocity data. The EDR so determined is compared with the turbulence intensity calculated from the Quick Access Recorder (QAR) dat...

We reconstruct the vertical pulse power distribution returned from a commercial small footprint discrete pulse airborne laser terrain mapper within a mixed forest landscape. By modifying a Beer-Lambert approach, we relate the ratio of ground return power / total return power to the canopy gap fraction (P) as derived from digital hemispherical photography (DHP). The results are compared to the c...

In addition to low-level windshear (below 1600 feet), low-level turbulence could also adversely affect arriving/departing aircraft at the airport. Turbulent airflow may occur in clear-air/non-rainy weather conditions, e.g. terrain effect at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) or building’s disruptions at Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport) in Japan. Such airflow disturbances cou...
