Assessment of the changing role of lower tropospheric temperature advection under arctic amplification using a large ensemble climate simulation dataset

Abstract The role of temperature advection in the Arctic lower troposphere under changing level global warming is investigated using a large-ensemble climate simulation dataset. Taking 30-year climatology non-warming (HPB-NAT) as reference, we examined difference basic states historical experiment (HPB) and 2 K 4 experiments (HFB-2K HFB-4K) decomposed them into terms related to dynamical changes, thermodynamical changes eddy term which covariance effect sub-monthly transient eddies. Under HPB experiment, it was found that total change hangs balance between positive signal located along sea-ice boundary North Atlantic Eurasian continent driven by stronger negative term. It with progression increases due large-scale atmospheric circulation, but decrease weaker gradient increased sensible heat flux from newly opened ice-free ocean, respectively. Atmospheric circulation partially cancels one another, relative importance diverging locally induced ocean dominates progresses.
