Assessment of Relationship between Road Roughness and Pavement Surface Condition

Pavement evaluation is the most significant procedure to minimize degradation of pavement both functionally and structurally. Proper hence required prolong life year pavement, which thus needs be addressed in policy level. By this, development genuine indices are formulated used for evaluation. In context evaluating measuring roughness, International Roughness Index (IRI) used, whereas calculating surface distress, as such Surface Distress (SDI) Condition (PCI) used. Past schemes by Department Roads (DOR) were limited IRI roughness SDI has least variability categorizing according deformation. Apart from these, PCI wide range categories not seen practice Nepal due its cumbersome field work calculations. this paper relationship developed relating with using regression analysis Microsoft excel. other words, index compared distress indices. 2017, 23.6Km feeder roads various locations Kathmandu Lalitpur districts taken study comprised 236 sample data, each segmented 100m. For was sourced secondary obtained Highway Maintenance Information System (HMIS) unit, Kathmandu, whereas, calculated data survey carried out those sections manually. Then after, among samples, 189 samples then validated 47 remaining samples. Furthermore, year, 2019 additional 3 Km validating relationships. It done improve numerical predictions variation satisfactory relationships discussed study. The between two indices, IRI-PCI IRI-SDI significantly obtained. been found that R² value these statistically 5% level significance. all showed could predicting would help pavement.
