چکیده
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) in wave mode is a powerful tool for monitoring sea states terms of long-period ocean swells specific directional partition. Since 2016, SARs aboard Sentinel-1A/B operating have provided swell spectra dataset as Level-2 Ocean products on continuous and global basis over open oceans. Furthermore, Level-3 are processed by Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Services (CMEMS) taking the benefit unique “fireworks” analysis. In this paper, heights from during period June 2016 to 2020 evaluated. The reference data include collocated situ measurements buoys WaveWatch III (WW3) hindcasts. Assessment results show systematic overestimation approximately 0.2 m partitioned compared buoy observations eastern Pacific western Atlantic. Based reliable SAR-WW3 collocations after quality-controls, empirical corrections been proposed Sentinel-1 heights. Independent comparisons against WW3 hindcasts demonstrate validity our postprocessing correction both eliminating biases reducing root mean square errors. consistency between CMEMS also examined discussed case studies.

Ocean Wave Parameters Retrieval from TerraSAR-X Images Validated against Buoy Measurements and Model Results
An ocean surface wave retrieval algorithm, Parameterized First-guess Spectrum Method (PFSM), which was initially developed for C-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), is modified to extract wave parameters from X-band TerraSAR-X (TS-X) images. Wave parameters, including significant wave height (SWH) and mean wave period (MWP) were extracted from nine TS-X HH-polarization images and were compared...
متن کاملBuoy data assimilation to improve wave height assessment in Bay of Bengal during monsoon seasons
Significant wave height assessment in Bay of Bengal derived from third generation Wave Model (WAM cycle 4) has been improved by assimilating with continuous three hourly data from five moored buoys of National Institute of Ocean Technology using optimum interpolation technique. Covariance based weight function (gain) used in the study captures the model physics behind wind-wave process while di...

15 صفحه اولObservations of swell influence on ocean surface roughness
[1] Field measurements of the ocean surface wave spectrum focusing on the slope-contributing components are used to construct a spectral model of the ocean surface roughness. The spectral parameterization is established with the observed empirical power law relation between the dimensionless wave spectral density and wind speed. The power law parameters (proportionality coefficient and exponent...
