Assessment of Awareness and Knowledge of Oral Cancer Among Tobacco-Using Dental Patients

Objective: The aim of this study is assesment awareness and knowledge oral cancer in a group tobacco users. Methods: consisted 100 adult patients aged 18 years over who applied to Marmara University Faculty Dentistry Oral Maxillofacial Radiology Clinic for routine examination. were asked complete 16-point questionnaire evaluating the effects smoking on cancer. Results: participants our identified symptoms as swelling / mass formation (60%), wound mouth (58%), loss sensation (39%) pain (38%). There was statistically significant difference between responses given “What are causes cancer?”, “what cancer?” diagnostic methods women men (p<0,05). rate responding question "What do you think cancer?" "alcohol use" (63.3%) significantly higher than (39.2%) (p: 0.027; p <0.05). no genders regarding “smoking” “chewing tobacco” factor (p> 0.05). Conclusions: It concluded that smoker individiuals have more awareness, level positive attitudes about compared men. Increasing individuals cancer, examination at high risk development national policies with purpose can make contribution improve consciousness.
