چکیده

The objective of this study was to analyse the feeding habits and trophic interactions between four oceanic predatory fish around Fernando de Noronha Archipelago (FNA), Brazil, in western equatorial Atlantic (3.86°S/32.42°W), internationally recognized as an environment high economic ecological value. For purpose, biological samples yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares), wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri), barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) were collected for stomach content stable isotope analysis. Values index relative importance revealed varied diets, with a strong presence teleost fishes (Diodontidae Exocoetidae) all species, having greater diversity food items. Despite being generalists/opportunists, strategy these predators showed tendency towards specialized diet use available resources FNA. They presented narrow niche width (Levin's index, Bi < 0.6) low overlap except (MacArthur Levin's, R0 = 0.72). Isotopic compositions had broad values ?13C ?15N, significantly different species. Our results provide information about species' organization suggest that avoid competition by preying on prey, thus allowing their coexistence.

Hyphenated techniques of gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometer were used to determine fatty acids in eleven species of seaweeds from Fernando de Noronha archipelago. The main compounds detected in all studied species were the alcohol phytol and the fatty acids 14 : 0; 15 : 0; 16 : 0; 18 : 0; 18 : 1 n(9); 18 : 2 Δ(9,12); 20 : 4; 20 : 5. These fatty acids are commonly found in seaweeds ...

Isolation of Salmonella spp. in cattle egrets (Bubulcus ibis) from Fernando de Noronha Archipelago, Brazil.

The growth of the population of cattle egrets (Bubulcus ibis) in the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha constitutes a threat to public health and biological diversity because of their competition with and predation on native species and the possibility of transmission of pathogens to human beings, livestock and native wildlife. The aim here was to search for, isolate and identify serovars of Sa...

The karyotype of Amphisbaena ridleyi, an endemic species of the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha, in State of Pernambuco, Brazil, is described after conventional staining, Ag-NOR impregnation and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with a telomeric probe. The diploid number is 46, with nine pairs of macrochromosomes (three metacentrics, four subtelocentrics and two acrocentrics) and 14 ...
