As-rigid-as-possible surface modeling

Modeling tasks, such as surface deformation and editing, can be analyzed by observing the local behavior of the surface. We argue that defining a modeling operation by asking for rigidity of the local transformations is useful in various settings. Such formulation leads to a non-linear, yet conceptually simple energy formulation, which is to be minimized by the deformed surface under particular...

On Coherent Rotation Angles for As-Rigid-As-Possible Shape Interpolation

Morphing algorithms aim to construct visually pleasing interpolations (morphs) between 2D or 3D shapes. One of the desirable properties of a morph is avoiding selfintersections of the deforming shape. We investigate topological invariants (based on winding number) of planar morphs between compatible triangulations that do allow global self-intersections but avoid local ones. Equivalently, such ...

As-rigid-as-possible spherical parametrization

In this paper, we present an efficient approach for parameterizing a genus-zero triangular mesh onto the sphere with an optimal radius in an as-rigid-as-possible (ARAP) manner, which is an extension of planar ARAP parametrization approach to spherical domain. We analyze the smooth and discrete ARAP energy and formulate our spherical parametrization energy from the discrete ARAP energy. The solu...

As-Rigid-AsPossible Distance Field Metamorphosis

Widely used for morphing between objects with arbitrary topology, distance field interpolation (DFI) handles topological transition naturally without the need for correspondence or remeshing, unlike surface-based interpolation approaches. However, lack of correspondence in DFI also leads to ineffective control over the morphing process. In particular, unless the user specifies a dense set of la...

Shape-aware as rigid as possible deformation

We propose a formulation capable of deforming meshes in a shape-sensible way. We explain how to adapt the original space-deforming algorithm [2] into a skeleton-driven deformation scheme, where more sensitivity to the mesh geometry is achieved. The more natural results make it possible to use the technique for character animation.
