Arguing for Freedom of Religion

چکیده

My title is “Arguing for Freedom of Religion,” not “Toleration,” because I follow the eighteenth-century writer Christoph Martin Wieland in taking “toleration" to connote a gift or indulgence from majority minority, whereas true freedom religion would put everybody on same plane believe and practice as they see fit, at all. consider three historically distinct ways arguing religion: premise held by one that requires others (the strategy Locke, Madison, Mendelssohn); about uncertainty all religious beliefs which calls equal (Bayle Wieland); fundamental requirement all, with no although it entails matters other things (Hutcheson, Meier, Kant). The latter approach may be most appealing purely philosophical point view, but former styles argument have obviously had much recommend them historical contexts, still useful.

Computational Dialectics for Arguing Agents

In this paper, we extract its computational content from Hegelian Marxist dialectics and consider the utilization in agents’ world. This is a novel approach to conflict resolution, cooperation, reconciliation, negotiation and so on that are main concerns in agent-oriented computing. We first examine two approaches to static dialectical logics: the dialectical logics DL and DM by Routley and Mey...

It is better to argue more as judges do, aiming to be fair, slowly edging towards as much agreement as possible, rather than each fighting his or her own corner. Trust each other’s sincerity. There is no...

Sliding Mode Control for Single-degree-of-freedom Nonlinear Structures

The occurrence of catastrophic earthquakes necessitates further researches in the structure engineering for retrofitting construction structures. In this paper, the application of the active control in the structures’ seismic response has been addressed. A single degree of freedom nonlinear structure has been studied. The nonlinear dynamic of the structure is considered in which, the nonlinear ...

Arguing for a Negligible Effect

Political scientists often theorize that an explanatory variable should have “no effect” and support this claim by demonstrating that its coefficient’s estimate is not statistically significant. This empirical argument is quite weak, but I introduce applied researchers to simple, powerful tools that can strengthen their arguments for this hypothesis. With several supporting examples, I illustra...
