Are we overfeeding hemodialysis patients with protein? Exploring an alternative method to estimate protein needs

چکیده
Background & aimsSufficient protein intake is of great importance in hemodialysis (HD) patients, especially for maintaining muscle mass. Daily needs are generally estimated using bodyweight (BW), which individual differences body composition not accounted for. As mass best represented by fat free (FFM), there a rationale to apply FFM instead BW. The agreement between both estimations unclear. Therefore, the aim this study compare based on either or BW HD patients.MethodsProtein were 115 patients three different equations; FFM, and adjusted low high BMI. was measured multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance spectroscopy considered reference method. Estimations x 1.5 g/kg 1.9 compared with (adjusted)BW 1.2 1.5, respectively. Differences assessed repeated measures ANOVA Bland–Altman plots.ResultsMean higher those across all BMI categories (P < 0.01) most explicitly obese patients. Alternative Protein-Protein Interfaces Are Frequent Exceptions
The intricate molecular details of protein-protein interactions (PPIs) are crucial for function. Therefore, measuring the same interacting protein pair again, we expect the same result. This work measured the similarity in the molecular details of interaction for the same and for homologous protein pairs between different experiments. All scores analyzed suggested that different experiments oft...
متن کاملRisk Stratification of Hemodialysis Patients with Protein-Energy Wasting Using Hand Grip Strength and Malnutrition-Inflammation Score: are Two Indices Better than One?
Background: We aimed to detect whether risk stratification of hemodialysis (HD) patients with a combination of both malnutrition-inflammation score (MIS) and hand grip strength (HGS) indices identified more precisely patients at increased risk of protein-energy wasting (PEW). Methods: This was a deductive-analytical cross-sectional study. We determined the HGS...
متن کاملA New Method to Estimate Inhibition Percentage of Endogenous Digitalis in Patients with Pre-eclampsia
Background: Pre-eclampsia is an idiopathic pregnancy disorder characterized by appearance proteinuria and hypertension, with poorly understood etiology. It has been linked to a variety of system abnormalities, including ion transport disorders in neonatal, maternal, and placental cell lines. A new method was described to evaluate the inhibition percentage of endogenous digitalis in plasma of pr...
متن کاملAn Alternative Approach to Protein Folding
A diffusion theory-based, all-physical ab initio protein folding simulation is described and applied. The model is based upon the drift and diffusion of protein substructures relative to one another in the multiple energy fields present. Without templates or statistical inputs, the simulations were run at physiologic and ambient temperatures (including pH). Around 100 protein secondary structur...
متن کاملElectropulsation as an alternative method for protein extraction from yeast.
The application of series of high intensity electric pulses to a yeast suspension provoked a considerable release of some cytoplasmic proteins, glutathione reductase, 3-phosphoglycerate kinase and alcohol dehydrogenase. A maximal yield was achieved 3-8 h after pulsation. The electro-induced protein efflux was accelerated by pretreatment with the reducing agent dithiothreitol and showed a strong...
