Are Reading Difficulties Associated With Poor Verbal Learning Skills? Evidence From the Fast-Mapping Paradigm

The main purpose of the current study was to examine effectiveness mechanism learning new words among typical readers and those with developmental reading difficulties. Twenty-three poor twenty-two performed a fast mapping word task. Three variables were measured; rate, identification ability after recognition referents learned words. results revealed that performances significantly higher than in all measures. discussed light verbal efficiency framework visual-phonological associations readers.
