چکیده

Objective To investigate the neuroprotective potential of insulin mimetics (IM) in patients with neuro autoimmune disease (NAD) and high risk comorbidities. Background IM are used to treat diabetes mellitus (DM) have been shown protect against progressive neurological damage. Despite their benefits, extent neuroprotection NAD has not completely characterized. Design/Methods A retrospective analysis on 34464 hospitalized at a tertiary care center major metropolitan area was conducted. 168 were taking medications. 7848 medicine other than for DM (nIM). 7690 without 26448 any medication (nDM). The outcomes compared included prevalence NAD, diabetic neuropathy and/or retinopathy (DMNR), comorbidities defined as those either heart failure, chronic kidney disease, stroke, or encephalopathy. Results 0.6%, 0.52%, 0.53%, 0.56% among IM, nIM, insulin, nDM groups respectively (p > 0.05). 19.5% 23.6% had Among 31% 16% DMNR 10% 8% nIM Conclusions These results suggest that medications may benefit additional comorbidity expected less disease. However, more studies needed determine whether play role neuro-autoimmune progression mortality. limitation this study is data collected from single institution does represent general population.
