چکیده

Abstract This is the first study to show global Cut-off Low (COL) activity in 46 models participating Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) and 6 (CMIP6). The COL historical simulations for period 1979–2005 obtained from CMIP5 CMIP6 their ensembles are compared with ERA5 reanalysis using an objective feature-tracking algorithm. results that simulate spatial distribution of COLs more realistically than models. Some improvements include reduced equatorward bias underestimation over regions high density. Reduced biases mainly attributed improved representation zonal wind due poleward shift subtropical jet streams. systematically underestimate intensity as measured by T42 vorticity at 250 hPa. In CMIP6, still underestimated summer, but overestimated winter part increased westerlies. overestimation enhanced finer resolution identify strong systems coarser Other aspects such temporal lifetime distributions modestly CMIP5. Finally, predictive skill climate evaluated five variables Taylor diagram. We find 15 out 20 (75%) best coupled belong this highlights overall improvement its predecessor Despite this, use multi-model ensemble average seems be better simulating individual

Identification and climatology of cut-off lows near the tropopause.

Cut-off low pressure systems (COLs) are defined as closed lows in the upper troposphere that have become completely detached from the main westerly current. These slow-moving systems often affect the weather conditions at the earth's surface and also work as a mechanism of mass transfer between the stratosphere and the troposphere, playing a significant role in the net flow of tropospheric ozon...

We are better off without perfect perception

Stoffregen & Bardy’s target article is based on the assumption that our senses’ ultimate purpose is to provide us with perfect information about the outside world. We argue that it is often more important that information be available quickly than that it be perfect. Consequently our nervous system processes different aspects of information about our surrounding as separately as possible. The s...

Are trauma patients better off in a trauma ICU?

UNLABELLED There is very little data on the value of specialized intensive care unit (ICU) care in the literature. To determine if specialize ICU care for the trauma patient improved outcomes in this patient population. Level I Trauma Center Compared outcomes of trauma patients treated in a surgical trauma ICU (STICU) to those treated in non- trauma ICUs (non-STICU). Retrospective review of tra...

Universal cut-off BMI points for obesity are not appropriate.

The World Health Organization (1998) defines obesity as a condition with excess body fat to the extent that health and well-being are adversely affected. The BMI (weight/ height, kg/m) is normally used for classification. The use of BMI as a surrogate measure for body fat percentage (BF%) is justified on the observation that BMI correlates well with BF% and is hardly dependent on height. The su...
