چکیده
In this contribution we discuss what call the “digital humanities-as-structuralism” narrative for case of computational literary studies. To better understand entailed criticism, start with some background non-computational aspects in narrative. First, single out major criticisms against structuralism. There, should rather seen as enabling connectivity fostering joint endeavor understanding.

Against Structuralist Theories of Computational Implementation
Under what conditions does a physical system implement or realize a computation? Structuralism about computational implementation, espoused by Chalmers and others, holds that a physical system realizes a computation just in the case the system instantiates a pattern of causal organization isomorphic to the computation‟s formal structure. I argue against structuralism through counter-examples dr...
متن کاملConsciousness and Literary Studies
At this present juncture in the history of literature, many critics fear the literary word has been devalued by the twin forces of electronic technology and critical theory. Even so, the field of literature is not without resources to revivify itself as the emergence of new holistic approaches to literature testify. The interdisciplinary influence of the sciences, for instance, opens a window f...
متن کاملComparative literary studies
In an increasingly globalised and globalising world, „culture‟ appears as „an important determinant of subjectivity‟ and, consequently, of creative expression (Beautell 2000). With this in mind, Tötösy de Zepetnek (1999) prompted researchers to merge the comparative study of literature with that of cultural studies, embracing what he designated the new „comparative cultural studies‟ approach. I...
متن کاملHow are Mathematical Objects Constituted? A Structuralist Answer
In my view, structuralism as presented by Shapiro (1991, 1997), Resnik (1991), and elsewhere offers the most plausible philosophy of mathematics: Mathematics is about structures, indeed it is the science of pure structures. Structures have no mysterious ontological status, and hence mathematics is not ontologically mysterious, either. Again, it is no mystery how we can acquire knowledge about s...
متن کاملLiterary Studies in the Digital Age
Over the past twenty years there has been an evolving body of scholarship exploring the standards, theories, and methodologies of digital scholarly editing. Scholarship from the early-to-mid-1990s maintained a bifurcated focus. On the one hand, many textual scholars found themselves in the slightly unusual position of writing primers, guidelines, and documentation laying the groundwork for basi...
