Appropriateness of Anogessus leiocarpus leaves and bark as vegetable tannins traditionally used in leather making in Sudan

Chrome tanning industry is dominated globally owing to its high versatility in quality leather production. However, Environmental impacts of chromium have shifted the interest present study chrome-free options. Vegetable tannins been proven be environmentally safe producing good with comparable properties as that chrome tanned leather. As such, scarcity vegetable tannin supply demands characterization non-commercialized sources locally available feed local tanners. A simple extraction technique was used different temperature 35, 50, & 85 oC. Leaves and barks from Anogessus leiocarpus grown Sudan can produce commercially acceptable terms extract yield, tannin, total phenolic, flavonoid contents, crosslinking ability A. mearnsii barks, which a worldwide known commercial source. Results shows influences on yields content low, except for leaves has shown an increase pattern raise temperature. Total phenolic varied insignificantly temperature, observed at 50 oC (30.7). Variations between extracts plant parts studied this work were significant. Tensile strength values skin are higher than barks. On other hand, produced greater elongation 40.6±0.35 compared extract.
