Appropriate Technology for Municipal Solid Waste Management Based on Wastepreneurship Implementation

Piyungan landfill is the biggest in Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia, which receives municipal solid waste (MSW) from two districts and a city, while its designed service time has been over faces operational obstacles. Meanwhile, volume MSW grows rapidly exceeds reduction rate their sources. The difficulty finding new area reason why appropriate technological alternatives management are strongly needed. Therefore, study aimed to evaluate social economic aspects formulate technology based on entrepreneurship (wastepreneurship) concept. methods this were conducting calculation characteristics composition, evaluation, evaluation combination composting, incinerator, sanitary landfill. Waste composition taken using direct field measurement following Indonesia's National Standard Guideline about retrieving measuring examples urban emergence composition. Characteristics used for calorific value energy. was conducted an in-depth interview with rag pickers. net present value, internal return, payback period. result shows that Landfill total combustion reach 82.22% potential incinerator implementation. In implementation composting technologies would open employment surrounding community economically feasible average profit margin 12.97% period 18 years. conclusion, concept wastepreneurship relevant by adjusting paradigm previously cost-center into business-center.
