Embedding the use of technology for authentic social interactions with L2 teaching and learning needs to be supported by effective pedagogical practices. This article explores how can support te reo Māori in New Zealand. Thirteen kaiako (teachers) from a variety backgrounds experiences, five ākonga (students) representing range ages were individually interviewed. The reported that synchronous online classes very helpful their language development enjoyed whanaungatanga created being part community. They felt less, isolated they got know some members class better. reported, connecting heart enhanced engagement Māori, which increased confidence ākonga, advanced level proficiency Māori.
