چکیده
Abstract Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) has gained increasing attention in the field of electrocatalysis due to its ability reveal electrocatalyst surface structures down atomic level either ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) or harsh electrochemical conditions. The detailed knowledge structures, electronic active sites as well interaction between adsorbates and electrocatalysts is highly beneficial study electrocatalytic mechanisms for rational design electrocatalysts. Based on this, this review will discuss application STM characterization surfaces investigation interfaces reactants. different operating conditions, UHV-STM environments (EC-STM) are discussed separately. This also present emerging techniques including high-speed EC-STM, scanning noise tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. Graphic

Scanning tunneling microscopy applications in electrochemistry — beyond imaging
Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) has gradually matured into a powerful tool for imaging electrode surfaces in the electrochemical environment with atomic resolution. It has been used to elucidate numerous old puzzling structural issues and to reveal many new interesting phenomena. As an imaging tool, it will continue to contribute to the understanding of various electrochemical processes on ...
متن کاملScanning Tunneling Spectroscope Use in Electrocatalysis Testing
The relationship between the electrocatalytic properties of an electrode and its ability to transfer electrons between the electrode and a metallic tip in a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is investigated. The alkaline oxygen evolution reaction (OER) was used as a test reaction with four different metallic glasses, Ni78Si8B14, Ni70Mo20Si5B5, Ni58Co20Si10B12, and Ni25Co50Si15B10, as electrod...
متن کاملScanning Tunneling Microscopy
The invention of the scanning tunneling microscope was a singularity event in the field of surface science and condensed matter physics. The ability to visualize individual atoms in an atomic structure was a huge step forward in experimental development, one for which the inventors were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1986. While a groundbreaking development, the Scanning Tunneling Micros...
