Application of Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS to assess the Urban Heat Island (UHI)

چکیده
Abstract Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon is a particular climate change impact in urban areas that can trigger adverse effects on environmental conditions. This effect usually worsened by increasing anthropogenic activities. While the of UHI has mostly been studied metropolitans around world, few studies are presented investigating outcome mid-sized cities. study aims to assess spatial distribution Bogor city, Indonesia, utilizing thermal data (Band-10) from Landsat-8 OLI/TIRS. The Landsat imagery was acquired May 2021, beginning dry season. result shows Land Surface Temperature (LST) values ranged 26.23 33.76°C, with an average temperature 31.29°C, while range NDVI between 0.08 0.55. Further, correlation and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) calculated investigate relationship vegetation density surface condition for examining outlook possibilities minimize through improving vegetal A negative suggests expanding coverage reduce heat island impacts 35%, other factors influence rest. land threshold determine 32.01°C, so area identified at ca. 13.12 km 2 city centre.

We are all familiar with the fact that cities are generally warmer than the surrounding, more rural areas. We see it referenced most nights in our television weather reports. It is especially significant on nights with clear skies and light winds which favor radiational cooling. This is most significant in the rural areas but in the city, the excess heat absorbed during the day and the local he...

An urban heat island (UHI) is a phenomenon whereby urban areas experience elevated temperatures relative to the surrounding rural hinterland. This thermal contrast is brought about by anthropogenic modification of the environment. For example, there is little bare earth and vegetation in urban areas. This means that less energy is used in evaporating water, less of the Sun’s energy is reflected...
متن کاملUrban heat island effects derived from dense Landsat thermal observations in Nanjing, China
An urban heat island (UHI) is an urban area where temperatures are higher than they are in the surrounding suburban areas. UHIs are of great scientific concern in the context of global environmental change. As a result of rapid economic development over the past three decades, the urban area in China has increased significantly. In the present study, to objectively determine the spatiotemporal ...
