Antioxidant enzyme responses of Kentucky bluegrass to simulated athletic traffic stress

چکیده

Increased athletic field usage and growing understanding of injury prevention have sports turf managers interested in implementing management practices that will improve turfgrass traffic stress tolerance. Previous research has shown other abiotic stressors, such as mowing/rolling, high/low temperature, drought, result changes to antioxidant enzyme activity levels. This study was conducted determine how simulated affects the magnitude duration Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.; KBG). Two levels (0 2 games week−1) were applied a blend ‘True Blue HGT’ KBG using modified Baldree simulator for 7 events (STEs) each year coinciding with 2018 2019 fall football schedule. One STE two wk−1 represents high school hosting junior varsity week. Experimental design split-plot randomized complete block four replications. Turfgrass leaves individually cut from sub-plots at 0, 2, 4, 8, 12, 24 h after application assay activities ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD). Traffic resulted decreased APX by 30–45% 2019, CAT 26–28% SOD 3–13% on some rating dates 2019. Activity lowest 4–12 STE. Catalase highest 0 or 4 STEs early but late it 12 STEs. These results suggest cumulative increases time required activity, directing future investigate timings frequency product application, potentially conferring protection enzymes.

The Enhancement of Drought Stress Tolerance of Kentucky Bluegrass by Prohexadione-Calcium Treatment

Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) is one of the most widely used turfgrasses for home lawns, golf courses, parks, and athletic fields in temperate climates. Oxidative stress caused by drought stress is a major limiting factor for grass cultivation in arid and semi-arid regions. The objective of this study was to investigate whether Prohexadione-Calcium (Pro-Ca) may play a role in promoting ...

Measuring sod strength of Kentucky bluegrass and Supina bluegrass

The extent of root, rhizome, and/or stolon growth determines turfgrass sod maturity. In 1998, at Michigan State University, the Calrochan Sod Puller (CSP) was developed to measure the force necessary to tear a piece of sod. The CSP uses a battery powered hydraulic pulley to provide a consistent pulling force, and is attached to a load cell. In August 1999, sod strength measurements of different...

a study of morphological, physiological and biochemical responses of poa pratensis l. (kentucky bluegrass) cv. ’barimpala‘ to drought stress conditions

drought stress is one of the phenomena that adversely affects growth and quality of plants, with turfgrass being no exception. for a study of the responses of poa pratensis l. cv. ’barimpala‘ to time periods of drought stress, turfgrass seeds were cultivated at 60cm depths in cylindrical pots of 15cm diameters and placed outdoors. plants were daily irrigated to the point until drainage occurred...
