Antimicrobial Properties against Human Pathogens of Medicinal Plants from New Zealand
نویسندگان
چکیده
The emergence of resistant microorganisms towards standard antibiotics has stimulated an on-going exploration for new sources antimicrobials. microbial susceptibility extracts produced from leaf, bark, or rhizome parts nine different New Zealand bushes was investigated using liquid broth dilution and agar plating techniques. Minimum inhibitory (MIC) lethal concentrations (MLC) were expressed in micrograms dry extract per milliliters solution. lowest MIC 62.5 μg/mL determined methanol Kunzea ericoides against Bacillus cereus Candida albicans, ethyl acetate Pseudowintera colorata Staphylococcus aureus. Additionally, K. also presented the MLC 250 S. aureus B. (methanol extract), (ethyl extract). Weinmannia racemosa to (MLC = µg/mL). Some Phormium tenax, Schefflera digitata, Pomaderris kumeraho antimicrobial (MIC 500 Geniostoma ligustrifolium Melicytus ramiflorus plants did not exhibit activity.

Hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol and methanol extracts of Psidium guajava, Terminalia chebula, Mimusops elengi and Achyranthes aspera were tested against the dental caries causing bacteria Streptococcus mutans and fungus Candida albicans isolated from caries infected patients. All the four extracts of P. guajava showed activity against both S. mutans and C. albicans. Maximum zone of inhibition wa...
متن کاملAntimicrobial and phytochemical studies on 45 Indian medicinal plants against multi-drug resistant human pathogens.
Ethanolic extracts of 45 Indian medicinal plants traditionally used in medicine were studied for their antimicrobial activity against certain drug-resistant bacteria and a yeast Candida albicans of clinical origin. Of these, 40 plant extracts showed varied levels of antimicrobial activity against one or more test bacteria. Anticandidal activity was detected in 24 plant extracts. Overall, broad-...
