Antimicrobial peptides provide wider coverage for targeting drug‐resistant bacterial pathogens

چکیده

We need new treatment options to control bacterial infections. Bacteria use several strategies resist drug treatment, including modification of the target, and adaptation a different lifestyle, such as intracellular niches within host cells. Drugs that act on diverse targets are less likely induce resistance in bacteria, than current antibiotics acting single molecular target. Antimicrobial peptides have been explored class because they selectively kill bacteria via mechanism involves recognition negatively charged microbial surface. Furthermore, antimicrobial with cell-penetrating properties can cross cell membranes target cytosol or sequestered vesicles. Therefore, capable evading likelihood establishing is further reduced. This review highlights potential alternative therapeutics pathogens both extracellular environments, avoid acquired drug-resistance.

Antimicrobial peptides targeting bacterial ribosome

Antibiotics kill bacteria by inhibiting vital enzymes involved in cellular metabolism, including protein production. However, extensive and sometimes gratuitous usage of antibiotics has led to microbial resistance, which is constantly emerging against every antibiotic class, raising serious public health concerns and the urgency for the development of new antibacterial therapeutics. Different s...

Focal Targeting of the Bacterial Envelope by Antimicrobial Peptides

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are utilized by both eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms. AMPs such as the human beta defensins, human neutrophil peptides, human cathelicidin, and many bacterial bacteriocins are cationic and capable of binding to anionic regions of the bacterial surface. Cationic AMPs (CAMPs) target anionic lipids [e.g., phosphatidylglycerol (PG) and cardiolipins (CL)] in the ce...

Antimicrobial activity of Zatacin against bacterial diarrheal pathogens

Background: Calf diarrhea is an important disease that is caused by different pathogens including bacteria, virus and parasites and is associated with economic losses. Objectives: In this study, we evaluated the antibacterial activities of Zatacin (Z. multiflora aerial part ethanol extract), colistin, co-Trimoxazole and enrofloxacin against clinical isolates of Salmonella sp, E. coli and Campyl...

Ancient Antimicrobial Peptides Kill Antibiotic-Resistant Pathogens: Australian Mammals Provide New Options

BACKGROUND To overcome the increasing resistance of pathogens to existing antibiotics the 10×'20 Initiative declared the urgent need for a global commitment to develop 10 new antimicrobial drugs by the year 2020. Naturally occurring animal antibiotics are an obvious place to start. The recently sequenced genomes of mammals that are divergent from human and mouse, including the tammar wallaby an...

Antimicrobial resistance pattern of bacterial foodborne pathogens

The aim of the present study was to determine the antimicrobial resistance pattern of bacterial foodborne pathogens and to know the suitable antibiotic in controlling of foodborne pathogens. Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas Sps were tested with twelve antibiotics by disc diffusion method. Among all antibiotic streptomycin, cefpodoxeme...
