Antimicrobial cationic surfactant-loaded hydrogel coatings in preventing medical device-associated infections
نویسندگان
چکیده
Hydrogels described herein were developed as anti-microbial coating materials. Three different hydrogels, p(HEMA), p(85%HEMA-co-15% MMA), and p(85% HEMA-co-15% MAA) loaded with two cationic surfactants, BAK, DDAB, respectively. DDAB owned better effectivity than BAK in killing S. aureus E. coli. Compared to unmodified(HEMA), all drug-loaded samples exhibited significant anti-adherence ability against E. coli, but on surfaces of DDAB-loaded bacteria below the limit detection, so was more effective conferring anti-adherent properties.

Frequency of device-associated infections in intensive care units
Background: Health care associated infections (HAIs) are a class of infections that infect patients during hospital admissions and receive medical services. These infections occurs within 48 to 72 hours of admission and up to 6 weeks after discharge. Surveillance of device-associated infections (DAIs) in intensive care units (ICUs) is substantial in planning healthcare strategies. This study wa...
متن کاملMedical device-associated infections in the long-term care setting.
Indwelling medical devices are increasingly used in long-term care facilities (LTCFs). These devices place residents at a heightened risk for infection and colonization and infection with multidrug-resistant organisms. Understanding the risk and pathogenesis of infection associated with commonly used medical devices can help facilitate appropriate therapy. Programs to minimize unnecessary use o...
متن کاملSurface micropattern reduces colonization and medical device-associated infections.
PURPOSE Surface microtopography offers a promising approach for infection control. The goal of this study was to provide evidence that micropatterned surfaces significantly reduce the potential risk of medical device-associated infections. METHODOLOGY Micropatterned and smooth surfaces were challenged in vitro against the colonization and transference of two representative bacterial pathogens...

متن کاملBiofilms and device-associated infections.
Microorganisms commonly attach to living and nonliving surfaces, including those of indwelling medical devices, and form biofilms made up of extracellular polymers. In this state, microorganisms are highly resistant to antimicrobial treatment and are tenaciously bound to the surface. To better understand and control biofilms on indwelling medical devices, researchers should develop reliable sam...
