Antimicrobial Activities of Propolis Samples Collected From Different Provinces of Turkey

The propolis, which is a natural product that collected by honey bees from the plants, especially flowers and buds, mixing it with wax resin, used in hive for many purposes. Apart use hive, propolis versatile compound medicine, cosmetics, food industry apitherapy contains wide variety of chemical substances having antibacterial antioxidant effects. It was determined antimicrobial effects samples were higher against Gram-positive bacteria species included study when compared to Gram-negative yeasts. majority found be highly sensitive (16 mm larger), while some moderately (11-15 mm). Among all strains bacteria; demonstrated sample obtained Cankiri (Yaprakli) region performed highest activity Staphylococcus aureus lowest Balıkesir E. coli. In addition, Eskişehir had no antifungal effect Candida parapsilosis yeast strain. specified microorganisms less effective control compounds, except krusei.

Silylated ethanolic extract of two propolis samples from Kazan and Marmaris regions in Turkey were investigated by capillary GC-MS. The compounds were characterized by comparison with library searches. Twenty four compounds from Kazan samples were identified, eight of them were new for propolis. Eighteen compounds from Marmaris samples were identified, two of them were new for propolis.
